Tindal Street Press is very proud that Catherine O’Flynn has been shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards, for her novel What Was Lost. (You may have seen her on Richard and Judy last Friday.)
What Was Lost is a novel growing strongly through word-of-mouth, and so we’re delighted that there is public voting for Newcomer of the Year. It would mean a lot to us if you would log on to the Galaxy British Book Awards website

What Was Lost is ‘enthralling tale of a little girl lost, wrapped in a portrait of a changing community over two decades’ (Observer). Set in a shopping centre, it is both a haunting mystery and a very funny satire on consumerism.
Catherine O’Flynn is from Birmingham and grew up in Nechells in her parents’ sweet shop. She has been a teacher, mystery customer and postwoman – and her first novel draws on her experience of working in record stores. She continues to enjoy living in the city.
This is a great opportunity to register a popular vote for the debut novel of 2007.
The Award ceremony, presented by Richard & Judy, will be shown on Channel 4 at 4.45pm on Sunday 13 April.
Please vote for Catherine O’Flynn and What Was Lost! Many thanks for all your help.

‘A great debut novel from an awesomely talented writer’ Jonathan Coe
“An off-beat quirky mystery which punches way above its weight. The author’s achingly astute observations on consumerism make this far more than a generic mystery and the icing on the cake is a twist in the tail which I really didn’t see coming’ Marian Keyes
‘A superb, haunting novel from a new literary talent’ Daily Mail
‘Quite extraordinary. I adored every page and recommend to everyone’ Jenny Colgan, Independent
