PARADE COULD BECOME A GLOBAL HIT

Film of one of the biggest military parades ever held in Stafford has gone global.

Footage of the marching soldiers and airmen taking part in the parade to celebrate them being granted ‘Freedom of the Borough’ has been posted on the popular video sharing website – ‘YouTube.’

The Borough Council granted the honour to 22 Signal Regiment of the British Army and to the Tactical Supply Wing of the Royal Air Force last month.

Around 3,000 people turned out on the day to cheer the two units. The honour was given to welcome 22 Signal Regiment to Stafford and to mark Tactical Supply Wing’s 37 year history with the area.

The six minute footage can be seen by following the link from the Mayor’s page of the Borough Council’s website at www.staffordbc.gov.uk.

Ian Thompson, who will take over as Chief Executive of the Borough Council next month, said: “The turnout on this cold Saturday morning was amazing and demonstrates how important our military links are to the people of the Borough.

“Although this brief footage will never be able to do justice to an incredible day at least it will help us recall the event from time to time - and allow former Staffordians across the globe to remember the traditions we are proud of in this Borough.”
