Poisons and Potions Event at Stafford Castle

HERBACEOUS HISTORY

An herbaceous treat is in store for history lovers on Sunday 18th May when Stafford Castle hosts the Poison’s and Potions event.

Costumed guides will be on hand to teach visitors about herbs and their uses in the Medieval and Tudor periods. There will be guided tours of the visitor centre herb garden, demonstrations about the use of herbs in cookery, cosmetics, medicine and for dyeing clothes and herb sellers on hand so that you can purchase plants to use in your own recipes.

Heritage Sites Manager for the Borough Council, Mark Hartwell said; ‘This is an exciting opportunity for the public to learn about the many uses of herbs through the ages. The event is very ‘hands on’ and aimed at a family audience. Come and hear lots of curious and gruesome facts and join in with the fun and interesting workshops and activities that are planned for the day.

The visitor centre is also open as usual and the arms and armour will be out for visitors to try on’.

The event takes place between11.00am and 5.00pm. Admission is free with car parking only £2.
