Unique director insight into new British drama at Adult Learners’ Week screening of Ruby Blue
Light House Cinema will host a special screening of new British drama Ruby Blue as part of Adult Learners’ Week on Sat 24 May at 7.40pm, introduced by writer/director Jan Dunn and followed by a discussion and Q&A with Jan and producer Elaine Wickham.
Ruby Blue (15) is the second film by the award winning filmmakers who made the critically acclaimed Gypo, and has won Best Film at this year’s London Independent Film Festival. Tickets cost: £5.20 full price / £3.90 concession.
This special screening is part of Screen +, a series of screenings across the West Midlands with added extra – the opportunity for viewers to learn more. Programmed as part of Adult Learners’ Week 2008. Supported by ESF and Screen WM. Ruby Blue stars British heavyweight Bob Hoskins and French Screen legend Josiane Balasko in her first English Language film.
Hoskins plays a widower who feels lost and alone until eight year old Florrie moves in next door. Delighting in his racing pigeons, Florrie unwittingly rekindles his love for the birds. With his new friendship and a new romance with glamorous French neighbour Stephanie (Balasko), all is rosy until poisonous gossip begins to spread. The filmmakers were quoted in the British press for kick starting a micro-budget revolution after the success of Gypo which was financed using credit cards.
On the release of Gypo Jan Dunn was hyped as “a filmmaker to watch” (Hollywood Reporter) and “a very promising new talent to watch” (Screen International), and Producer Elaine Wickham won the 'Outstanding Achievement in Production’ Award at the British Independent Film Awards in London. Marketing Coordinator Lindsay Wiggin said, “Jan and Elaine will provide an invaluable insight into the world of filmmaking in their discussion and Q & A session after the screening of the film on Sat 24 May.
If you are a budding filmmaker or a fan of British film then don’t miss this great opportunity to meet some of Britain’s hottest filmmaking talent.”Ruby Blue will also be screening Fri 23 May 6pm & 8pm, Sat 24 May 5.40pm (& 7.40pm,) Sun 25 - Tues 27 May 6pm & 8pm, Wed 28 2.15pm, 6pm & 8pm, Thurs 29 May 6pm & 8pm.
