Jazz Night Featuring Walsall Jazz Orchestra
The Walsall Jazz Orchestra is a 19 piece big band which, unlike the vast majority of big bands, plays contemporary, rather than traditional big band music. The band plays pieces written by well known composers such as Pat Metheny, Mike Gibbs and Chick Corea, as well as a number of original compositions. The concert will take place in the historic courtyard of the Chubb Buildings and all proceeds will be in aid of the Mayor's general charities fund. Cost: £5.

The Navigator (U) with Organ Accompaniment
City organist, Steve Tovey, returns to Light House to provide the music and sounds for Buster Keaton’s 1924 silent masterpiece, The Navigator. Rollo Treadway, played by Keaton, is a rich and arrogant young man who decides to marry his sweetheart Betsey O’Brien (Kathryn McGuire). She rejects his proposal and so Treadway embarks on the honeymoon by himself, but awakes the following morning to find that the passenger ship he boarded is empty and drifting aimlessly across the ocean. However, by a series of sinister events, it seems that Betsey has also stumbled aboard the doomed ship... Dir. Donald Crisp & Buster Keaton, 1924, US, 1hr.

The Film Archive ‘Relay’
Come along to this special archive screening recalling the competitive streak of Midlanders in Action! We’ll be looking back at our great Midlands sporting heritage with a programme of archive film spanning the 1930s to the 1970s which has been curated by the Media Archive for Central England (MACE). Cheer on the winners, commiserate with the losers and celebrate those who just took part! These cultural heritage screenings have been especially developed as part of the Cultural Olympiad Launch weekend and will be taking place across the West Midlands between 26 - 28 Sept. Cost: free.
This screening is the first of a ‘relay’ of screenings across the West Midlands including Warwick Arts Centre Sat 27 Sept, 6.30pm and Old Market Hall, Shrewsbury Sun 28 Sept, 4.30pm. World Mental Health Day: Poppy Shakespeare
Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council, Mental Health Empowerment Team presents a special screening of Poppy Shakespeare as part of World Mental Health Day 2008. Produced by Cowboy Films, Poppy Shakespeare was first screened on Channel 4 in March 2008. This screen adaptation from the bestselling book by author Clare Allan is a work of fiction the author admits would never have been written without her own experiences as a patient in the psychiatric system. A tale of unlikely friendship in a north London psychiatric ward, Poppy Shakespeare stars Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Poppy and Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane) as “N”. New arrival Poppy convinces 13 year veteran “N” to help her escape by proving that she is sane – but in doing so she must pretend to be mad. All Welcome. Cost: free.

Screen Forum: Digishorts 2007
This evening will be a special preview of the films from Screen WM’s Digishorts 2007 programme. From the reincarnation of King Arthur to a heartfelt tale of a young girl’s love for her mother – you’ll laugh, you’ll cry! Followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers. Screen WM will also be on hand after the screening in Lock Works to talk to any budding filmmakers about the scheme and offer advice. Cost: free.
