SCRUM ON THE BEACH

The summer of scrums continues on Tuesday 12th August when sand sculptor extraordinaire, Mark Anderson, creates a six foot sculpture of England rugby star-Paul Sackey-using two tonnes of sand in just seven hours, in Victoria Square, Birmingham.

Mark Anderson, who has been creating spectacular sand sculptors for over 20 years, is using his artistic skills to raise awareness of the O2 Scrum on the Beach series, a free nationwide rugby festival which is an offshoot of the annual O2 Scrum in the Park.

Mark will kick-off in Victoria Square’s promotional space at 9am on Tuesday and visitors will see the finished result at around 4pm. The life-sized sculpture will mark the start of Birmingham’s O2 Scrum on the Beach, where a specialised urban beach will be created at Centenary Square for the free one day rugby festival held on Wednesday 13th August. Rugby fans and their families can get up close and personal with some of England’s rugby legends by taking part in a game of urban beach rugby or simply kicking-back and enjoy the fantastic acts and live entertainment.

For those who are an O2 customer, an especially warm welcome awaits at ‘Blueroom on the Beach’, an exclusive VIP chill out area where the England rugby stars hang out and O2 Angels are on hand for a free massage. Even more fun can be had at the O2 double decker tour bus, which will also be at Victoria Square on Tuesday 12th August, where rugby goodies will be up for grabs.

Rugby festival goers will also have the chance of entering a competition on both days (Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th August) , to win the ultimate beach ride, a customised England rugby VW Camper Van, by guessing where the keys have been hidden on a virtual beach.

Alternatively, the competition can be entered online at http://www.o2blueroom.co.uk/Rugby/ScrumOnTheBeach
