Coming real soon to the Town Hall...

This is another shout for the amazing Paul Murphy with his incredible band The Destroyers performing their intriguingly named show "Tweedeleededeedee, Sir Ru Barb and the Green Wolf" at Birmingham Town Hall on 6th December. An original urban folk opera written by Paul with a score by Frank Moon that highlights the diversity of instrumental and vocal talent within The Destroyers. Set in no particular time this opera draws freely from past, present and future to create an upbeat cautionary tale for discerning audiences of adults and children.

I have known Paul Murphy since 1982 and was lucky to be a part of one of his legendary projects when in 1983 he had the audacity to take a multi racial Brummie arts group, including a Handsworth reggae band over to Belfast at the height of hostilities. Nothing like cutting in with a fresh perspective on inter-cultural conflict. Paul Murphy is anything but boring or predictable, anyone who has witnessed him live as a solo artist playing around the West Midlands or witnessed his poetry, prose, plays, websites and films over the past 40 years will know exactly what I am talking about.

I asked Paul to play at our wedding at the Oratory in Edgbaston a few years back (along with Roy Cadman) and having no idea what special little hymn or love ballad he might choose for so reverent an environment, we waited with interest and excitement. I would guess that Wonderwall by Oasis has possibly never been performed in The Oratory either before or since. How cool was I in the eyes of my 18 year old cousins? Wonderwall in the Oratory! But most apt I thought - that's Mr Murphy.

So with the backing of this amazing mega band of accomplished folk, jazz, classical, world and rock musicians - God only knows what we are in store for!

Don't miss out on something I guarantee will be just a little bit different from anything you've seen or heard before.
