Live & Local see in the New Year with a quirky world music band, comical mask theatre and musical storytelling from across the globe


Live & Local announce their spring season of professional shows in community venues across Warwickshire.

Jenny Clarke of Live & Local says ‘we had a fantastic autumn season and can’t wait to bring top quality entertainment to even more venues across the county. We’ve got quirky musical mime show for all the family, a darkly comic mask theatre show as well as musical storytelling from the UK, Caribbean and New Zealand for all to enjoy this season. Communities throughout the county are in for a real treat in 2009 and our website www.liveandlocal.org.uk can show you what’s on down the road or in the most distant corner of Warwickshire’.

The season opens with a fantastic family show, The Phileas ‘P. Souper’ Tour by Loon & theatre mimi. Loon are a 5-piece world music band and theatre mimi are two hilarious mime artists. Together they whisk you off on a musical journey around the world in 80 minutes! If you want to try something new this year then head over to Hatton Village Hall (Sat 31 Jan, 7.45pm) or Preston on Stour Millennium Hall (Sat 7 Feb, 7.30pm).

Another great family show is The Last Resort by Strangeface Theatre Company. This darkly comic folk tale is told through masks, puppets and live music. Think Spitting Image meets Wallace & Gromit! Coming to Atherstone Memorial Hall (Fri 6 Feb, 8pm) and Ansty Club (Sat 7 Feb, 7.30pm).

For the little ones, head over to Weston under Wetherley Village Hall on Sat 14 Feb at 4pm. Moby Duck’s I’m Still Hungry! is an exciting Korean tale about a quick thinking and hungry tiger that mixes live music, dance puppetry, storytelling and masks. Moby Duck’s shows are aimed at 4 – 8 year olds and never fail to disappoint.

Live & Local welcome back old favourites Daniel Smith Blues Band. This exceptional four-piece blues band always go down a storm so book your tickets fast. Coming to Eathorpe Village Hall (Sun 15 Feb, 7pm) and Maxstoke Village Hall (Sat 28 Mar, 8pm).

February sees some fantastic storytelling from across the globe. Jan Blake and Luke Daniels combine Afro-Caribbean culture with English folk music for an evening of witty and exciting storytelling, song and adventure. See their performance of Afro-Caribbean Folk and Roots at Newton Village Hall (Fri 27 Feb, 7pm) or Bubbenhall Village Hall (Sat 28 Feb, 7pm). The Pioneers by See Threw Music is a multimedia delight where three New Zealanders uncover fascinating stories of emigration through traditional folk music, Maori song, storytelling, poetry and photographs. Discover another world at Lighthorne Village Hall on Friday 13 March at 8pm.
