Stechford Youth Network (SYN) was founded in March 2006 with the sole objective of listening to the needs of young people and taking action to solve problems. The network has worked proactively to address issues and is well recognised in the areas in which it works. It recently started providing youth provision in the Ward End area.
We envision a minimum of 40 YP working together across areas of planning, organising, volunteering and having the right skills to integrate into mainstream society. Once they acquire these new skill sets they will transfer their positive experiences by visiting other youth clubs and centers. We aim to train individuals to represent the organisation at meetings, boards, and events. These networking opportunities will also go towards developing the YP to become the leaders of tomorrow.
"Re-Building Communities” project will run for two year and integrate separate youth groups. It has been commissioned through a £65,000 grant from BCT. The two communities live side by side to each other but instead of accepting their differences, groups are using them to create conflict. The project will involve a number of different theme activities coming together including mentoring, volunteering, event planning and workshops.
The four target areas that will be addresses will be improving behaviour, Emotional health, social literacy and Job skills
The organisation will celebrate a five-year anniversary at the end of the project through a showcasing event. It will be accompanied by five-year history tool-kit that will be advertised to a wider public. It will act as guidance to new organisation and others that wish to follow in our footsteps and work with BMI communities under a cohesion banner. It will be a useful document to local and national groups.

This document will benefit groups across the UK as more communities are becoming diverse and having a step by step approach across a 5 year timeline will help groups who are at different stages. It will also ask YP to talk about their experiences and have case studies included.

“The Barrow Cadbury Trust is pleased to be able to continue to support the positive work of Stechford Youth Network. Our new grant will allow the organisation to bring groups of young people together and to support them to work cohesively to improve their lives and the communities around them. We look forward to seeing how the project develops over the next two years.”
A massive thank you must go to Barrow Cadbury Trust for their support, guidance and faith in the organisation.
