Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa
The Coull Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick, are pleased to invite you to two special concerts to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the death of Haydn, that most highly regarded and influential classical composer, and also the 200th birthday of a seriously prodigious talent, Felix Mendelssohn. To celebrate this special year the Coull Quartet is presenting a programme which begins with one of Haydn's exuberant Tost quartets, written for a talented violinist in the orchestra he directed at the Esterhazy court. Mendelssohn, began writing quartets before he reached his teens, but the Coull Quartet has chosen to include one of his mature works that is brimming with emotion and excitement, and which features a magical scherzo reminiscent of his Midsummer Night's Dream music.Visit this week’s Spotlight to find out more.
