Alexandra Theatre Birmingham
Taken from Colleen McCullough’s bestseller, this story of forbidden love previously adapted for T.V, now finds its way to the musical stage. Set in the Australian outback, this dark tale of the scandalous relationship between a young girl and a Catholic priest is beautifully directed by Michael Bogdanov and convincingly delivered by the hugely talented Wales Theatre Company.
Matthew Goodgame and Helen Anker excel in the central roles and are supported throughout by an extremely versatile cast. Musical input is provided by Gloria Bruni and costume design by David Emanuel and Holly McCarthy, adding weight to this entertaining world premier production.
Sadly, due to funding issues the company will cease to operate on conclusion of the Thorn Birds tour, making their exit on a truly high note.
