Planning your Holiday online

The days of having to book your holiday in the travel agents has gone. The Internet offers you the flexibility to plan your own holiday, book your own flights and accommodation with just a few clicks of a button. There are even websites out there to help you plan where to go and what to do with links to book directly. One of the most awarded and all round interesting sites is www.tripadvisor.co.uk. This excellent website has over 30 million reviews from hotels and restaurants all over the world. It is already listing the top 10 dirtiest hotels 2010. You can search for flights, things to do, restaurants, hotels and holiday rentals.

Another interesting spin on social networking (facebook/myspace etc) is http://www.wayn.com/. This website “Where Are You Now?” has over 15 million members worldwide (very small compared to Facebook’s 350 million members). Planning your holiday on WAYN is simple with online maps, travel guides and accommodation finders. You can even calculate your carbon footprint! The best thing about this site is once you have joined up (free) you can access other peoples holiday pictures and videos and read their blogs (online diaries) so you can really get a feel of a destination before you travel there yourself.

If you use my recommended cash back site www.quidco.com you can book your flights and or accommodation online and claim up to 10% of your spend back depended on the retailer, giving you a little extra spending money.

The most important advice is to search around the internet carefully looking for reviews of places and getting ideas. Don’t take everything you read as absolute truth. Some people exaggerate and others lie, but used carefully the internet can enhance your holiday experience.
