Anti-High Speed Rail protester to walk route

A campaigner opposed to the proposed high speed rail link (HS2) between London and Birmingham has started a walk along the entire route.

Lizzy Williams, 36, who suffered a brain injury in a car crash two years ago, said it would probably take her the whole of September to complete it.

She lives in in a rural location just north of Banbury and said the rail proposals would destroy the area.

Fellow campaigners have organised walks to coincide with hers.

This lady is not the saint she seems, has upset many elderly people and others in the Boddington area of the proposed HS2 route with her groups wild scare tactics claims about the new high speed line. Told many at a local meeting that the new line would was going to be enclosed in a steel cage to stop people and animals being sucked into the trains because they go so fast....
Take what she says about HS2 and HS1 with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for the comment. The story is not want I have investigated myself and comes from the BBC news website (See link). I appreciate there are often 2 sides to every story, especially when it comes to campaigns about planning and often personality politics blurs the objective view of the issues. But having said this, allegations are difficult to respond to when they are anonymous. More information would be welcome from local people with a different view.

Anonymous, this is a load of absolute tosh.
I have met and worked with Lizzy and never once has she said anything like this. I believe that she is putting her heart and soul into such an honourable walk you should be supporting her instead of shooting her down in flames.
I take it the HS2 doesn't affect you negatively, in anyway?

Thanks Sarah. There was part of me that wondered aouut publishing the comment because it does seem to be more about a judgement of this lady's character as opposed to addressing the argument about the HS2 which was the real aim of picking up on the article in the first place. So perhaps I can ask that any further comments address the issue and not attack someone's character. We need to understand, is the HS2 a good thing or a bad thing and why?

Sarah and Editor. The information regarding this 'steel cage' to be erected around the new line was reported in local papers around the Davantry area. South Northamptonshire Action Group (SNAG), started and run by 'Lizzy' were the main contributors. The 'steel cage' claim was also posted on SNAG's Facebook page for some weeks at the time but was very swiftly removed when investigated and questioned by an outsider and some very upset residents around Boddington area. 'Lizzy' also made this claim herself on the 'save the chilterns' Facebook page to be met with a Boddington resident asking for more information as her elderly parents were told about 'a huge steel cage around the new line' when they attended a local SNAG meeting for Boddington residents. People require facts about HS2 (and HS1), not rubbish and scare tactics. Those (including me) who are affected by the plans are under going enough stress as it is without protest groups making wild claims that fall down when questioned.
