“Intelligent,
provocative, profound. See him while it’s still legal” -
Chortle
“Outstanding.
Hughes is gold” - Metro
“Hard-edged social
commentary at its best” - Times
On Saturday 3 November, inimitable Australian comic and ex heavy metal
drummer, Steve Hughes heads to The Public in West Bromwich.
Following an outstanding performance on the BBC’s number 1
stand-up comedy show, ‘Live At The Apollo’ last December, Steve Hughes embarked
upon an incredibly successful debut UK tour earlier in 2012. Due to the huge
demand from his current, and new legions of fans, Steve will be returning to the
UK with ‘Big Issues’ this Autumn, performing at the Black Country venue next
month.
One of the most exciting and distinctive
comedians on the UK circuit, Steve has been invited to perform at every major
comedy festival in the world and throughout 2010 and 2011 he joined Reginald D
Hunter as a special guest on his mammoth nationwide tour – taking in over 80
venues playing to tens of thousands of people. Television appearances include
storming sets on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy
Roadshow (BBC One), Stand Up For The Week (CH4) & One Night Stand
(Dave).
There are some issues that are just too big to
be swept under the carpet. Expect intelligent, thought-provoking,
straight-talking social commentary from one of the finest and most original
performers to grace the UK circuit. A former heavy metal drummer (Mortal Sin,
Naxzul), Steve quickly made a name for himself on the comedy circuit as an
erudite, philosophical, highly opinionated and provocative performer – a
paradoxical blend of laid-back charm and acute caustic anti-establishment
humour.
“acutely
observed and cutting bone-deep, Steve delves into gutsier territory – racism,
terrorism, homophobia – with an honesty and openness rarely seen among comics,
his insights are spot on, his opinions are intelligent and his jokes are top
class…’ - Guardian
Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public
said,
“Steve Hughes is currently one of the finest original
comics on the UK circuit with an ever growing following. We’re delighted that
he’ll be performing at The Public as part of his forthcoming nationwide tour in
what promises to be fantastic evening of comedy.”
